Everyone is different. Especially, when one is under stress. Some react to stress hormones with high blood pressure, headaches, stomach pain, insomnia or even heart problems. But also diarrhea, irritated skin, allergies and tense muscles could be typical stress symptoms. What many of us do not realize is: Stress can be outsmarted. Here are some tips on how.

When we humans were hunters and gatherers dangers lurked everywhere. Everyone was constantly on full alert. After all, every day was a matter of sheer survival. The healthy thing about it: Stress was quite normal and was immediately acted out. And that is exactly what we humans of the 21st CENTURY need to learn again: Not passively “sit out” stress, until it has accumulated in our system, but to listen to our healthy impulses.

  • Even if you – in our unhealthy couch potato times - usually are not too keen on it: Daily stress can be reduced or done away with if you convert it directly into physical activity. The effect: You let off steam, burn some calories, and above all: It puts things back into perspective.
  • Outdoor sports, cycling, walking or simply a physical work which you really enjoy such as e. g. gardening are the ideal steam valve. Recent health studies from the U.S. suggest an optimum of at least 1.5 hours walking or 2.5 hours jogging per week for a healthy and well-balanced metabolism.
  • Physical relaxation techniques such as Yoga, Pilates or autogenic training also have a positive effect on our general health.
